The POPE-type reels, equipped with a supporting drum, are designed for reeling the paper web. The paper web is consistently wound onto a roll, known as the reel spool, with the revolutions of the reel spool influenced by the downward pressure from the carrying cylinder, which is driven by a geared electric motor.
The supporting drum can be made from cast iron or fully welded from structural carbon or stainless steel. Positioned between the stands, a doctor with electromechanical oscillation ensures surface cleaning. Depending on the paper threading system, the control side of the paper machine features a fixed or free rope pulley. The supporting drum also includes an internal cooling system to cool the paper web from the drying section.
